Hey jetsetter,

I’m Janay, a solo female traveler on a mission to get more Black women outside.

Janay in a white print shirt and pink wide-leg pants, smiling on the stone causeway to Angkor Wat in Cambodia as the morning sun rises behind the temple
Janay in a green top and zebra-print wide-leg pants, holding a black umbrella up high in front of a carved wooden arched door in Sitges, Spain
Janay smiling up as she lets go of a glowing paper lantern, with more lanterns drifting into the night sky over Chiang Mai, Thailand
Janay in a bright knit hat and llama-pattern sweater, looking out over red and ochre striped mountains at Vinicunca, Peru’s Rainbow Mountain

A quick hello

Janay in a cap and backpack, looking up at a mossy rock overhang on a hike near Sydney, Australia

I’ve travelled to over 30 countries solo and am always looking forward to my next adventure! From Peru to Thailand, I’ve learned how to get the most value out of my trips, find delicious eateries, and immerse myself in rich cultural experiences. I’m a strategic planner that loves travel logistics. I mean, I really love them. Like, spend my Friday evenings cross-referencing Google Maps with the Tokyo transit system, love them. I’m happy to put my, ahem, healthy research expertise to good use as we get you to your dream destination.

One thing that I notice while traveling is a staggering lack of Black women wherever I go. I started Fly Black Girls Fly to encourage more Black women to take unforgettable trips abroad and stateside. Most Black women are overworked, underpaid, and in dire need of some time off. So, whether your version of a holiday is relaxing on a beach, hiking to connect with nature, or dancing the nights away in a major city, I want to get you there.

You deserve to see the world and experience all the splendor that it holds. And you can do so knowing you have an experienced traveler in your corner, advising you every step of the way.

How I can help

Whether it’s your very first trip or your 30th, I’ll provide you with a plan that fits how you want to travel.

Your security and enjoyment are top priorities for me. Yes, I want you outside, but I also want you to feel safe and cared for while you’re away. My goal is for you to return revitalized and hungry for your next trip!

Travel consultation

$50, paid when you book (non-refundable)

A one-on-one video call about your proposed trip. Whether you come with a specific destination in mind, or you’d like to brainstorm ideas based on personal preferences, this 30 to 45-minute call will end with destination inspiration and clear next steps.

Accommodation preparation

$100, paid after client receives and reviews materials (non-refundable)

Sorting through hotel options can be a beast, let me do it for you! Based on the locations that we discussed in our consultation I will pull 3 to 6 options for lodging. Depending on trip preferences, these can include hotels, apartments, villas, or cruise cabins. Your complete Accommodation Presentation will also include property amenities, nearby sites, access to public transportation, and a per person cost analysis.

Flight tracking

$50, per departing metro area, paid once flights are booked (refundable if trip gets cancelled)

Searching for flights can feel overwhelming and people tend to book the first option they come across, which usually results in overpaying. Fortunately, searching for flights is a beloved pastime of mine! Rates vary drastically as you get closer to your trip date, but I will do my best to make sure that you pay the average, or less for your trip. If given at least 5 months to search, I will ensure that you get a low rate for flights.

Note: If you need assistance booking trains, buses, or ferries on your trip I am happy to help and will roll that under this $50 service fee.

Itinerary planning

$50, paid after client receives and reviews materials (refundable if trip is cancelled)

Great, you’ve booked your dream destination! Now what? If you know where you want to go but you’re not sure what to do once you arrive, that’s where I come in. I can provide a detailed itinerary that includes popular tourist attractions, local events, excursions, outdoor activities, private tours, and more. Whether you’re looking to book a cooking class in Italy, a traditional tea ceremony in Japan, or take salsa lessons in Colombia, I’ve got you covered. This service is an especially helpful option for honeymooners and girls’ trips!

How we’ll work together

  1. Book your consultation

Pick an available time slot that works for your schedule, and pay the $50 through Square.

  2. We talk it through

We meet on Zoom to discuss who is going, and where you want to go. I will focus on the type of experience you want to have on your trip.

  3. Sign the contract

After our initial call I will email you a service agreement outlining the items requested in our consultation. Once you review, approve, and sign the contract I will get to work researching for you.

  4. You get your personalized plan

Your plan will be unique to you and how you like to travel. It will include the planning items agreed upon in your signed service agreement with clear next steps.

  5. Let’s book it

Once you’ve confirmed the details of your trip I will work with you to process payment and book your stays, excursions, and assist with flight purchases. I will never use your financial information without your expressed prior authorization and will always follow up immediately with booking confirmations.

  6. Staying in touch

Once you’re booked, I’ll be making sure that all moving pieces are tended to in the background. Some examples include making sure that you have necessary travel visas, mandatory vaccines, forecast tracking, and closely following current events that might impact your trip.

  7. Bon voyage!

Two weeks before your trip I will be sending reminder emails and alerts as necessary and will make sure that you feel confident and ready to go. You will have access to me while you are away should any issues arise but otherwise, I expect you to have a great time!

  8. Go again

My goal is for you to come home energized from your trip and empowered to go on another adventure. And if you enjoy the services that I provide, I hope you’ll choose Fly Black Girls Fly for your next trip!

Frequently asked questions

I’m not a Black woman, can I book with Fly Black Girls Fly?

Yes! Although the mission of this company is geared towards Black women (it’s in the name after all!), I am pleased to work with clients of any race, gender, sexuality, religion, or country of origin. While travelers of all ages are welcome, please note that all minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

I live in another country, can I still book with Fly Black Girls Fly?

Unfortunately, I am only set up to book U.S.-based clients at the moment. If and when that changes I will be sure to shout it from the rooftops!

How does scheduling work?

I use Square to automate my consultation bookings. The calendar featured on the “Book a consultation” page will allow you to select a date and time up to 60 days in advance. Although some weeks will vary, you can generally expect availability on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings plus a midday chunk on Saturdays.

What if I cancel my trip?

I understand that life happens, and trip cancellations are an unfortunate possibility. While the fees for consultation and accommodation preparation are non-refundable, fees for flight tracking and itinerary planning are 100% refundable if your trip gets cancelled for any reason.
